"Soon diseases will be cured with a cell, not a pill"

Current medical treatment boils down to six words: Have disease, take pill, kill something. Physician Siddhartha Mukherjee points to a future of medicine that will transform the way we heal.

"Soon diseases will be cured with a cell, not a pill"

"From 1950-2000 we tried to cure cancer by killing cells using a variety of chemotherapies or targeted therapies. But this method reached its ceiling and came out to be much harmful for the human organism. The past 10 years we started approaching the idea of using the human immune system in order to fight cancer. Since cancer is grown in the human organism we can use this organismal capacity itself, the human immune system, in order to attack cancers. Now we are focusing on the personalization of medicine in order to cure many diseases such as cancer."
